From the Konica DiMAGE line of long Zoom Digital cameras comes a new offering, the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20. The reviews declare the camera to be a good long range Zoom Camera with an 8x zoom lens. It also features a 5 megapixel CCD, but does not have the Anti Shake technology of the DiMAGE Z5. The camera produces good images that reflect crisp detail and attractive colors.
It should be understood the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 does not quite reach the ultimate in performance levels like some of the high end models do. However, it is shutter responsive and sensitive enough to make night photography relatively easy. What you do get with this camera is an attractive package complete with plenty of useful features and capabilities and the price is not outrageously extravagant.There are different cameras for different people and it really depends on the photographer’s requirements. With the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 apart from the 8x Optical Zoom, you also get complete manual exposure control. The camera really is very compact weighing under 15 ounces and measuring 109 x 82 x 94 mm. While it is not exactly going to fit in your pocket, it will fit in your backpack or other carry bag comfortably.
The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 is covered in silver gray plastic and the lens barrel is an extremely rigid no nonsense one. The hand grip is an equally solid construction. The lens is non telescoping, Wide Angle and has the standard plastic lens cap to shield it. The images are 5 megapixel and can be enlarged to 8 x 10 shots when printed. You can do lower resolution if you want to send out pictures by email.
The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 takes approximately 0.5 seconds to power up in recording mode from the time you turn it on to when the image first appears on the LCD panel. The battery that is included in the camera has its own dedicated charger that needs to be used to charge it. The white settings featured include: Auto, preset and custom and the preset mode is inclusive of daylight, tungsten, fluorescent, flash and cloudy.With the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 still life images that are taken in daylight and by flash are both very good. The results show good color and vibrancy; in fact, colors are very accurate, producing solid black, almost pure white and a range of grays. Daylight shots show little noise but flashlight shots display a significant amount of colored noise. You may even get a purple fringe on your pictures!With the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20, quite honestly, what you see is what you get. There are no surprises, but the competitive price is attractive, though there are other cameras featuring higher optical zoom and image stabilization.
